Tech Wales Advocates launches in Cardiff
Tech Wales Advocates is now the fifth Global Tech Advocates network in the UK, joining London, the North of England, Belfast and Scotland to bring the organisation’s to all UK nations.
TWA was launched on the 15th July by Nathan Stockford & Mark John with the ambition to support and build up local communities in the Welsh Tech industry. Although based out of Cardiff TWA is currently reaching across Wales, from the Tramshed in Cardiff to companies working out of M-SParc in Anglesey.
Working alongside the communities already established in Wales, TWA will provide a platform for our advocates to know and attend events across all communities. TWA is already looking to grow their own working groups with future plans in other tech areas.
Wales may be known for its roots in steel and mining, but the country’s tech companies are growing rapidly and creating a new source of jobs in the digital economy:
- Tech companies in Wales raised a collective £71m in funding in 2020
- Welsh IT workers earn on average £42,179, over £10,000 more than Welsh average advertised salary of £31,984
- Wales has seen a number of tech entrepreneurs throughout lockdown investing into the Welsh startup and scaleup ecosystem (which is predominantly tech) reaching record levels in 2020 (£129m).
- The number of active Welsh businesses is at a record high too: 145k.
With such exciting times ahead here in the Welsh Tech Community we are very proud to become the 21st Tech Advocates group and join a global community!
